You’re getting two posts today because I went unconscious last night before I could finish this. Here are my musings from yesterday.
It’s hard to find the words to describe the morning. I woke up to the sun peaking over the barrier islands. I was so happy. I got to read in the sunshine on our personal island, nearly forgetting the state of the world.
Traveling in the time of COVID has been overwhelming. When the ferry was canceled yesterday, we had a moment of panic determining if the complementary coach bus would be a safe alternative. Walking around Boston and Ptown had me on edge, being so close to so many once again. When we’re biking, we get so consumed by the repetition and passing road that it can be jarring when we pass into a crowded town and see masks everywhere.

So, to be alone this morning, in the fresh air, to feel free and unburdened by the pandemic was freeing.
After enjoying the morning sunshine and the view, we packed up camped and shipped out. We spotted sea lions again! When we made it home, we made breakfast and discussed how we might spend our one zero day. When Sarah suggested wine, pie, and sailing, we were instantly sold.
But first: bike maintenance. Sarah G. changed her break pads and I re-taped my handle bars. Sarah F., Delaney, and Talia all worked on a more secure fix for Talia’s persnickety bike rack. Kelly and Oliver took the important supervisor role. When we finally finished, we gathered our belongings and departed for treats and boating.
Once aboard our vessel, we dined on sandwiches from Chatham Cookware and Key Lime pie from Marion’s. The icy wind out of the north masked the sunburns forming. But sunburns notwithstanding, it was a treat to be on a boat and not biking! It was also a pleasure to be cold after spending many sweaty, gritty days on the hot pavement.

After boating, we were treated once again by our gracious host and had an evening in the hot tub. We ending the evening having dinner on the porch and enjoyed each other’s company.

Not scrubbing bike grease off our legs and taking a whole day without bike shorts has been great. Thanks to the respite, I am excited to return to my bike.
