The last couple days have felt more like a beach vacation than a bike trip, but today brought us back to reality a bit. It was a long day on some busy roads, with lots of miles on bustling route 1. But we had some beautiful beach views and very few hills, and got to finish at MK’s sister Caroline’s house!
We had a great morning with Megan and her grandma. Megan made us amazing egg sandwiches on gluten free bagels that didn’t even taste gluten free. We also got sliced watermelon and berries! It was the perfect wholesome meal to send us on our way.

After we said goodbye to Megan and her grandma, we had a good few miles through some shoreline towns, including a small jaunt through Hammonassett. We only took a couple snack/bathroom breaks before getting into New Haven.
On our way into New Haven we got to see our favorite thing, a bridge getting lowered!! We love watching bridges do things. When we made it into New Haven, we saw Sarah’s old roommate Lily! It was great to see her.

We settled down for lunch on the green and got shake shack and bubble tea for lunch! Truly we are eating so well. Sarah did an amazing job leading us to New Haven and Mary Kate took over for the rest of the ride, since she biked this route often during Block C.

The next noteworthy thing to happen was our Wendy’s break in Milford! Sarah wasn’t feeling great so we decided we needed frosties. They were the perfect pick me up and gave us some pep in our step for the last 20 miles, which we really needed.

It felt great to finally make it to Caroline’s house! It felt like we had done more than 56 miles. But once we showered, we felt completely refreshed. Caroline fed us an amazing dinner of roasted veggies and their mom’s chicken recipe. As usual we inhaled it. Arguably the best part was dessert. She got us two ice cream cakes!! We put sparklers in them and it was beautiful. We had an great time talking on the porch and eating the delicious food she made us.

Today was a long day but we got through it together and truly were revived by Caroline’s great food and cheerful personality. We’re excited to visit our friends in the Stamford area tomorrow!

Before scrolling to the bottom, I knew this would be a Talia post. 🙂 The yummy, plentiful food you are having is indicitive of how hard you are pushing yourselves daily, and wonderful fuel for your strong muscles pushing you forward! I love, too, that you are noticing the wildlife around you – harbor seals in Chatham, frogs in a small pond, and fish in Milford!
